Frozen pipes can lead to major water damage

As the temperatures drop and water can change from liquid to solid in the form of "Ice" we try to remind everyone that Ice causes expansion which can lead to pipes breaking.  As the Ice thaws out and converts back to liquid water form the issue becomes obvious and the damage can be significant. Many of these losses can be prevented.

Do a visual inspection of your pipes if possible, if you see any concerns contact your plumber for a professional recommendation.  The material your pipes are made of as well as the fittings could also play in the issue, or be a potential issue.  If your pipes are exposed in an open area that may be prone to freezing could also be important, it is not difficult to insulate some pipes.  Running water intermittently to make sure it does not get a chance to freeze is also a method.

Don't assume all is well, inspect.
